Romeo, Juliet and Darkness is a love story, a wartime thriller and a social commentary. Set during the Nazi occupation of Prague it tells the story of a male student who shelters a Jewish girl. He is her only link to the outside world and over time their relationship grows. Wonderfully shot in beautiful black and white photography the film examines the consequences of a young man’s act of compassion in the face of the Nazi occupation. Weiss perfectly captures the fear of living under such conditions.
